The castle of Mâlain dominates the valley ...
When you arrive to Mâlain, it is very easy to distinguish the ruins of the castle. Perched on a rock broken off from the break of Mâlain and dominating the village from its impressive ruins, the castle is a lordship since the XIth century. The families who occupied this castle one after the other since its origin until the Revolution (The Sombernon, the Montagu, the Beaufremont, the Mâlain, the Brulard, the Vichy) played at several times an important role in Burgundy and even in the court of the King.
Since 30 years, the castle is restored step by step.
This middle age fortress set on the rocky spur which dominates the village of Mâlain meets many restorations and archaeological excavation allowing the castle to " revive ". This site is managed by the Archaeological Group of Mesmontois (GAM).
